How To Play A Phoney Posted by johnG on Monday, March 23 @ 12:15:31 EDT (882 reads) Topic Playing

I gained 132 rating points in my last tourney going 13-0. It was tough my key to success- suprisingly PHONEYS. I played 22 phonies in a 13 game tournament, I never got challenged on a bad word! I am not saying I encourage the play of phoneys I'm saying that there is a lot of players especially when you move up in ratings there are more and more players who will challenge, so you should know how to play one. I've broken it down to easy steps to follow."

Children and Scrabble: The Perfect Match Posted by johnG on Tuesday, November 14 @ 22:52:58 EST (2338 reads) Topic Playing
| Anonymous writes "Scrabble was a tradition in my family. From the time I could barely see the board from my vantage point at the edge of the table, I witnessed the subtle strategies used by my older brother and sisters at play. I dreamed of the day I was old enough to play—how I'd dazzle them all with my victory! But that day was long in coming. If there’s any game that makes kids feel left out, it’s Scrabble. Because it requires reading, spelling, and vocabulary skills, many parents think Scrabble isn’t for the very young. Think again! Parents these days can easily introduce the game to a child as young as four or five years old. With a little time and effort, they can help children even develop advanced skills that many adults don’t know.

| Anonymous writes "Any family with a Scrabble tradition has doubtless developed their own set of house rules, particularly if that household includes children requiring modifications. House rules can make play more interesting and lively, place an emphasis on learning rather than competition, or simply be used to speed the game up. Below, are some common house rules I’ve heard about or used at home. Each rule adds its own twist to the game. I welcome you to try them!

At the Vancouver tournament, on the last play of the day, (while most
players are packing their bags and babbling noisily about the first 8
games), I got to bingo out through an E (at H1) and a D (at O1) with the
following rack:
?AEHNRT (Spoiler below)
I didn't need the bingo to win otherwise I would have really been babbling
noisily also.
That got me thinking this week...
Scrabble and all these good moments. What is the ultimate euphoria. What
makes the Scrabble world turn?
